Oluremi Tinubu Announces N200,000 Grants for 250 Persons with Disabilities

The First Lady of Nigeria, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, has announced plans to award N200,000 grants to 250 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) across the country as part of the Renewed Hope Initiative’s economic empowerment programme.

Speaking during the distribution of food items to vulnerable residents of Abia State under the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI), Senator Tinubu highlighted the initiative’s strides since its inception in 2023 in supporting women, youth, and vulnerable populations. The event was hosted by the wife of the Abia State Governor and RHI State Coordinator, Priscilla Chidinma Otti.

Represented by the wife of the Vice President, Nana Shettima, the First Lady stated that essential food items had already been distributed in 11 states and the Federal Capital Territory, including Benue, Cross River, Oyo, Delta, Edo, Ekiti, Gombe, Kano, Kogi, Kwara, and Nasarawa.

She outlined several ongoing projects under RHI’s five focus areas—Social Investment, Economic Empowerment, Education, Health, and Agriculture. Under Social Investment, she announced a partnership with the Federation of Environmentalists to establish environmental clubs in secondary schools and tertiary institutions nationwide.

Speaking on upcoming activities, she added, “We will empower 250 persons with disabilities with N200,000 grants each to boost their small businesses across the 36 states and the FCT.”

Under the education scope, Senator Tinubu revealed the launch of the “Flow With Confidence” campaign, which will distribute sanitary pads to young girls in rural communities, with each state receiving 10,000 packs annually to help girls stay in school during their menstrual cycle.

“These programmes are designed to complement President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda and improve the lives of Nigerians,” she noted, urging beneficiaries to make good use of the distributed items and avoid selling them.

In her remarks, Lady Otti expressed gratitude to the First Lady for her continued support, particularly in tackling hunger. She said the RHI’s impact in Abia State has been felt across education, health, empowerment, and nutrition.

“The distribution will continue in the coming weeks and will reach women’s groups, religious bodies, persons with disabilities, and political groups without bias,” she added. “Hunger knows no ethnicity, religion, or political affiliation.”

Governor Alex Otti also commended the First Lady’s inclusive approach, noting that RHI’s interventions go beyond short-term relief and have the potential to drive long-term socioeconomic transformation.

“With well-implemented programmes in healthcare, education, agriculture, and economic empowerment, the Renewed Hope Initiative can lift millions out of poverty and toward sustainable livelihoods,” he said.
