The Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe, has reinforced his administration’s commitment to inclusive governance by empowering 200 Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) through the sixth edition of the Renewed Hope Asiwaju Cash Support Programme and officially handing over a newly completed secretariat to the disability community.

The empowerment programme and commissioning of the PWD Secretariat, held at the Badagry Local Government Secretariat, marked another milestone in the council’s efforts to promote the welfare, inclusion and active participation of Persons with Disabilities in governance and community development.

Speaking during the event, Hon. Hunpe said his administration remains committed to implementing policies and programmes that cater to the needs of every segment of society without discrimination.

He explained that dedicating the sixth edition of the cash support initiative exclusively to Persons with Disabilities demonstrates the council’s determination to ensure that vulnerable groups are not left behind in the delivery of democratic dividends.

Describing Persons with Disabilities as valuable members of society, the Chairman stressed that they deserve equal opportunities, dignity and support to realise their full potential. He noted that the provision of a permanent secretariat for the disability community would strengthen their activities, enhance coordination and further deepen their participation in governance.

In their separate goodwill messages, the Leader of the Legislative Arm, Hon. Bankole Mautin Asokere; the Council Manager, Mrs. Avoseh-Akwe Senami Oluwakemi; APC Badagry Local Government Apex Leader, Chief Moses Zannu Ogunbiyi; and the APC Badagry Local Government Chairman, Hon. Gafar Muritala Meyon, commended Hon. Hunpe for his unwavering commitment to inclusive leadership.

They described the cash empowerment programme and the handover of the secretariat as practical demonstrations of a compassionate, people-oriented administration and encouraged the beneficiaries to utilise the financial support responsibly for their economic advancement.

Responding on behalf of the beneficiaries, the Special Adviser on Persons with Disabilities to the Executive Chairman, Mr. Sejoro Ekundayo, expressed heartfelt appreciation to Hon. Hunpe for prioritising the welfare of Persons with Disabilities. He described the empowerment initiative and the allocation of a permanent secretariat as historic achievements that have boosted the morale of the disability community and strengthened their sense of belonging.

Ekundayo assured the Chairman that the beneficiaries would make productive use of the financial assistance and reaffirmed the disability community’s commitment to supporting the council’s vision of building a more inclusive, accessible and prosperous Badagry.

The event was attended by the Vice Chairman, Hon. Akeem Adeyemi; the Secretary to the Local Government, Mr. Adagba Benjamin; councillors, supervisors, special advisers, political office holders, management staff of the council, party leaders, members of the disability community and other stakeholders.
