The Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities (PWD) Board has undertaken a study tour to the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities (GSCPWD) to learn from its achievements and best practices in advancing disability inclusion.
The Chairman of the Zamfara State PWD Board, Alhaji Usman Ahmad Nahuche, led the delegation on the visit, describing Gombe as the board’s first choice for institutional learning due to the commission’s outstanding performance since its establishment. He noted that the Zamfara board, which was inaugurated only seven months ago, considered Gombe a model for disability inclusion and effective service delivery.
Speaking during the visit, Nahuche commended the Executive Chairman of the GSCPWD, Ishiyaku Adamu, for his leadership and commitment to promoting the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities. He also praised Governor Muhammadu Inuwa Yahaya for his support of disability inclusion, noting that the governor’s decision to appoint Adamu had contributed significantly to the commission’s success and growing national recognition.
The Zamfara delegation further expressed admiration for the peace, development and inclusive policies being implemented in Gombe State, describing them as evidence of purposeful leadership and good governance.
In his response, the Executive Chairman of the Gombe State Commission for Persons with Disabilities, Ishiyaku Adamu, welcomed the visitors and thanked them for choosing Gombe as their first study tour destination. He highlighted several achievements of the commission, including policy development, institutional strengthening, disability rights advocacy, partnership expansion, accessibility promotion and empowerment initiatives for persons with disabilities.
Adamu attributed the commission’s progress to the unwavering support of Governor Inuwa Yahaya, whose administration, he said, has demonstrated a strong commitment to the inclusion and protection of persons with disabilities. He assured the delegation of the commission’s readiness to share its experiences and innovative approaches to strengthen disability inclusion efforts across the country.
The visit featured interactive sessions between officials of both institutions, providing an opportunity to exchange ideas and practical strategies for advancing the rights, welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities in Zamfara and Gombe states.
The visit is expected to strengthen collaboration between the two disability agencies and further reinforce Gombe State’s growing reputation as a leading centre for disability inclusion and institutional development in Nigeria.
