The Kebbi State Commission for Persons with Disabilities has praised Governor Dr. Nasir Idris, Kauran Gwandu, for his commitment to inclusive governance and sustained efforts to improve the welfare of persons with disabilities across the state.
The commendation was made during a courtesy visit by the leadership of the Commission to the Government House in Birnin Kebbi.
Speaking during the visit, the Chairman of the Commission, Hon. Anas Malami Gwandu, described Governor Idris as a compassionate leader whose administration has consistently prioritized the needs of vulnerable groups.
Gwandu noted that the establishment of the Commission, coupled with policies and programmes targeting persons with disabilities, demonstrates the government’s determination to ensure that no one is left behind. He cited the approval for the enrollment of 6,750 persons with disabilities into the Kebbi State Contributory Healthcare Management Agency (KECHEMA)—covering 30 beneficiaries in each of the state’s 225 wards—as well as empowerment initiatives under the “Kaura Cares” programme as major milestones in promoting inclusion.
The Commission Chairman also reaffirmed the support of the disability community for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and the Kaura Agenda of Governor Nasir Idris, expressing confidence that both administrations are delivering meaningful benefits to persons with disabilities. He further pledged the Commission’s continued cooperation with the Kebbi State Government in advancing disability-inclusive development.
Also speaking, the Executive Secretary of the Commission described Governor Idris as the first governor in Nigeria’s North-West geopolitical zone to establish a Commission for Persons with Disabilities, describing the move as a landmark achievement that has positioned Kebbi as a leading state in disability inclusion.
According to the Executive Secretary, the administration’s interventions in education, healthcare, empowerment and accessibility have restored hope and dignity to thousands of persons with disabilities across the state.
The Commission also pledged to intensify grassroots sensitisation on government programmes while partnering with relevant stakeholders to monitor the implementation of disability-friendly policies. The delegation concluded the visit with prayers for Allah’s continued guidance, wisdom and protection for Governor Nasir Idris as he continues to lead the state.
