A Corps member, Jurdimma Douglas Damina has donated 40 wheelchairs to Persons with Physical Disabilities in Daura Local Government Area of Katsina State as part of his personal Community Development Service (CDS) to his host community,
Douglas said he was motivated by his passion to impact positively on society’s less privileged he comes across.
Douglas disclosed that he was touched as he sees many of the physically challenged people passing by his house along Township road, Daura everyday.
He further explained how he was particularly moved by a physically challenged old man using a wheelchair made of wood.
According to Douglas, the old man’s wheelchair doesn’t move freely. It requires much physical exertion by his son to push. Each time they pass by in this struggle, I feel pity for them.
Douglas said he never believed he could execute the project until he met with the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Center of Nigeria – a Non Governmental Organization located in Jos, Plateau State. Luckily for him, the NGO accepted to sponsor the project.
Speaking at the presentation ceremony, the State Coordinator, National Youth Service Corps, Katsina State, Hajiya Muhammad Aisha called on the host community to continue to encourage Corps members serving in their domain to carry out more developmental community oriented projects in their areas.
She noted that no Corps member will carry away any project executed as it belongs to the community.
Aisha who was represented by the Assistant Director, Planning and Research, Alhaji Umar Ibrahim commended the Corps member for the initiative.
