The Abia State Commissioner for Sports and Youth Development, Sir Nwaobilor Ananaba, has received Commonwealth Games gold medalist Esther Nworgu following her historic achievement as Nigeria’s first gold medal winner at the 2026 Commonwealth Games in Glasgow, Scotland.
Nworgu, a celebrated para powerlifter from Abia State, delivered an outstanding performance at the Games, further cementing her status as one of Nigeria’s leading para athletes. Her victory has brought honour to both Abia State and the nation while inspiring aspiring athletes, especially persons with disabilities.
Receiving the champion, Sir Ananaba congratulated Nworgu on her remarkable success, describing her as an exceptional ambassador whose dedication, resilience, and determination have continued to project Abia State positively on the global stage. He commended her commitment to excellence and urged her to remain focused on achieving even greater milestones.
The Commissioner also reaffirmed the commitment of Governor Dr. Alex Chioma Otti’s administration to the growth of sports in the state. He noted that the government’s continued investment in sports development, athlete welfare, and grassroots talent development is producing positive results, as Abia athletes continue to excel in national and international competitions.
