The Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre, Jos, has distributed 65 tricycle wheelchairs to Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Jama’are Local Government Area of Bauchi State.
Inclusive News Network reports that the latest intervention followed an earlier outreach by the foundation to Jama’are and Itas/Gadau Local Government Areas, where wheelchairs were distributed to some Persons with Disabilities.
However, during the initial visit, the number of people requiring mobility aids exceeded the number of wheelchairs available, leaving several PWDs without the support they needed.
True to its commitment, the Beautiful Gate Handicapped People Centre returned to Jama’are with 65 additional tricycle wheelchairs to support beneficiaries who could not be reached during the first intervention.
Speaking during the distribution on Thursday, a representative of the foundation said the initiative was driven by the belief that “access to mobility is access to life.”
The representative said the intervention was aimed at expanding access to mobility for Persons with Disabilities and ensuring that more beneficiaries were not left behind.
The Centre also expressed appreciation to community leaders, partners and other stakeholders whose support contributed to the success of the outreach.
The latest distribution underscores the importance of sustained interventions that provide Persons with Disabilities with mobility aids needed to participate more fully in their communities and live with greater independence.
