In a renewed commitment to disability inclusion, the Senior Special Assistant to the President on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has vowed to collaborate with key stakeholders to accelerate the domestication of the Discrimination Against Persons with Disabilities (Prohibition) Act 2018 in the 16 states yet to adopt it.
Speaking at the unveiling of The Ability Life Initiative (TALI) in Abuja, Abba Isa underscored the importance of partnerships between the public and private sectors in advancing disability rights.
He praised TALI founders, Mrs. Prada Uzodinma and Mrs. Oprah Uzodinma-Ohaeri, for their dedication to an inclusive society and acknowledged the efforts of First Lady of Kwara State, Ambassador Prof. Olufolake Abdulrasaq.
Reaffirming the administration’s commitment to inclusion under the Renewed Hope Agenda, Abba Isa highlighted ongoing engagement with Ministries, Departments, and Agencies (MDAs), donor organizations, and state governments to fast-track implementation.
He pointed to the establishment of the Inter-Ministerial Committee on Disability Act Implementation as a major milestone, ensuring that MDAs adhere to accessibility and inclusion standards.
He concluded with a pledge to sustain advocacy and drive strategic action to ensure full inclusion for Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Nigeria.
