The Senior Special Assistant to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu on Special Needs and Equal Opportunities and President of the Nigeria ParaVolley Federation, Hon. Mohammed Abba Isa, has congratulated the federation’s Technical Director, Coach Christian Agoawuike, on his appointment as a member of the Board of ParaVolley Africa.
Abba Isa described the appointment as a significant milestone for Nigerian para-volleyball, saying it would strengthen the country’s representation in continental sports administration and create opportunities to contribute to the development of the sport across Africa.
The presidential aide, who facilitated Agoawuike’s nomination, said the appointment recognised the coach’s technical expertise, professionalism and longstanding contributions to para-volleyball in Nigeria. He expressed confidence that Agoawuike would bring his wealth of experience to bear on efforts to improve the sport’s technical standards, administration and growth across the continent.
Agoawuike has more than two decades of experience in para-volleyball, having served in various coaching and technical capacities and contributed to the development of Nigerian athletes and teams competing internationally. He also serves as technical adviser and coach to Nigeria’s Invictus Games teams, which have won medals and trophies at international competitions.
His appointment comes less than three months after Abba Isa emerged as president of the Nigeria ParaVolley Federation at its elective congress held in July 2026 at the VIP Lounge of the Moshood Abiola National Stadium, Abuja. He was elected unopposed, securing all nine votes cast by accredited delegates.
Following his election, Abba Isa pledged to reposition the federation, improve athletes’ welfare, strengthen its administrative structures and expand opportunities for Nigerians with disabilities to participate and excel in para-volleyball at national and international levels.
The appointment of Agoawuike to the continental board represents an opportunity to advance these objectives by strengthening Nigeria’s engagement with other African para-volleyball stakeholders and ensuring that the interests of Nigerian athletes with disabilities receive greater attention in continental discussions.
Abba Isa reaffirmed his commitment to inclusive sports development, stronger international partnerships and improved opportunities for para-athletes, stressing the importance of creating an environment where athletes with disabilities can develop their talents and compete at the highest levels.
