Persons with disabilities in Livingstone District, Zambia, are set to have easier access to Disability Cards following the donation of a card printing machine by the Norwegian Association of the Disabled (NAD).
The machine was donated under the Collective Action for Disability Rights (CADiR) initiative and is expected to bring Disability Card printing services closer to persons with disabilities in Livingstone and surrounding communities.
Speaking during the handover, ZAPD Livingstone District Coordinator, Ganizo Phiri, thanked NAD for the donation, saying the machine would help reduce the difficulties and delays persons with disabilities often face when obtaining their Disability Cards.
Phiri said the cards play an important role in enabling persons with disabilities to access their rights, benefits and essential services, particularly services that have not always been readily accessible to them.
Also speaking at the event, Mr. Eddie Mupotola called on stakeholders to become ambassadors of change by supporting initiatives aimed at removing barriers faced by persons with disabilities.
Mupotola emphasised the importance of collaboration among civil society organisations, government agencies and communities in advancing disability inclusion. He said collective efforts were essential to promoting reasonable accommodation and ensuring that services are accessible and inclusive for all.
The new printing machine is expected to improve access to Disability Cards in Livingstone by reducing the challenges and delays previously experienced by persons with disabilities when obtaining the cards.
The initiative demonstrates the importance of partnerships in bringing disability-inclusive services closer to communities and promoting the rights, dignity and well-being of persons with disabilities.
