The Nigerian Bar Association (NBA) is set to inaugurate the NBA-Lawyers with Disabilities Forum.
Recall that in 2021, Mr. Olumide Akpata led NBA created the Forum for Lawyers with Disabilities.
The Forum is aimed at engendering diversity and inclusion in the affairs of the bar as well as offering the educational and networking resources that the members need, and keeping them up-to-date with issues of peculiar circumstances and practice areas.
The Forum is further poised to cater to the distinctiveness of the Lawyers with Disability group and promote their general professional wellbeing.
This giant stride is a combined result of the determination of ALDIN to create an enabling environment/pedestal for its members to advance their legal practice in a less difficult, productive, and fulfilling manner; as well as the absolute resolve by our own amiable Mr. Olumide Akpata to engineer a bar that truly works for all.
In a Communique issued at the end of the quarterly meeting of the National Executive Committee of the Nigerian Bar Association held on Thursday 24th Day of June 2021, at the NBA National Secretariat, Abuja, the NBA president proposed a 10-member committee as initial members of the Governing Council of the Forum, namely, “(i) Asia Ahmad El-Rufai (Chairman); (ii) Patience Etumudon; (iii) Kassim Lawal; (iv) Florence Marcus; (v) Ikem Uchegbulam; (vi) Dumi
Prosphen; (vii) Daniel Onwe; (viii) Chukwu Emmanuel Ufio; (ix) L.A
Archibong; and (x) Shakira Eletu.”
The above members of the governing council of the Forum were inaugurated on January 31, 2022, at the NBA House.
