The Board of Trustees, Nigeria Police Trust Fund have commended Governor David Umahi of Ebonyi State for his Infrastructural development which they maintained has complemented policing in the State.
The commendation was an outcome of a courtesy visit on the Governor by the Team on Wednesday in Abakaliki, Ebonyi State capital.
The team was led by the Director-General of the Budget Office of the Federation, and member of the Board, Chief Ben Akubueze.
Akubueze who spoke for the Board, explained that they were in the State as part of their oversight visits to the various Police formations across the Country.
He noted that the aim was to ascertain the strength and weaknesses of the Police with a view to tightening all loopholes for effective service delivery.
The Team Leader who acknowledged the obvious cordial relationship exiting between the State government and the Police Command, emphasized that the avalanche of good roads, Street lighting and other amenities put in place by the Governor has greatly aided policing across the State.
Akubueze said: “I am highly delighted to be here today on this historic visit to you and the people of Ebonyi State.
“Your Excellency, we have been duly informed of the numerous assistance the State Government has been rendering to the command in the State with the limited resources currently at its disposal, and the warm relationship existing between the State and the Nigeria Police.
“At this juncture therefore, I want, on behalf of the Board of Trustees and management of Nigerian Police Trust Fund, express our profound appreciation to you and the government of this State for this warm relationship.
“I have also taken due cognisance of your very impressive strides in infrastructural development in this State.
“Your interventions in areas like street lighting and CCTV cameras in particular, have contributed tremendously to security in this State.”
Akubueze further appealed for more assistance from the Government in the areas of operational vehicles as well as arms and ammunition.
Receiving the visitors, Governor Umahi appreciated the Nigeria Police Force for their sacrifices in the security of lives and property of Citizens and called on citizens to get involved to ensure holistic tackling of insecurity in Nigeria.
He expressed pride that Ebonyi State was one of the most peaceful States in the country, attributing the development to cooperation between the Police, the citizens and the State Government.
“Security is everyone ‘s business.
“So I want to commend the Nigeria Police Force.
“We can’t contest the fact that Ebonyi State remains the most peaceful and safest State in Nigeria, and it didn’t just come.
“We all fought for it together and brought peace to our people” Umahi said.
Governor Umahi further strengthened his commitment to continue to support the Nigerian police Force, stating that the State Government was currently undertaking the construction of over ten police Stations destroyed during the EndSARS protest.
“Each time a policeman or woman dies in Ebonyi State, it gives me serious heartbreak because no man who is working to safeguard our people should die.” He stressed.
The Governor who further hinged Nigeria’s greatest problems on insecurity, health and education, called on stakeholders in the Education Sector to rally round to ensure timely end to the lingering ASUU strike for the Nation’s future.
He noted that it was on the basis of tackling the health challenges that the State established the best Medical University in the country, David Umahi Nweze University of Medical Sciences, Uburu, which the Federal Government has taken over.
Governor Umahi further called on University authorities to institute maintenance culture, always treating public infrastructures as their own.
“There is the need to review our educational system.
“I don’t know why we can’t sit down with ASUU and iron out this issue once and for all.” The Governor said.
The visitors were received by the Governor in company of his Deputy, Kelechi Igwe, and other members of the State Executive Council.
