As part of the ongoing project in Ekiti State, the Disability Not A Barrier Initiative (DINABI) has released soft copy of the Accessibility Audit report on public facilities and services in the state.
Executive Director of the organisation, Olajide Funso had earlier in a report published by Inclusive News Network in October called the attention of State Government to areas where the State’s People with Disabilities (PWDs) are being denied access to facilities and services at its validation meeting on Accessibility Audit Report of public facilities and services in the State.
Mr Funso, during the release said that the report is part of the deliverables of the ongoing project being funded by Disability Rights Fund (DRF) with the aim of advocating for the compliance with the National Disability Act in Nigeria and the Ekiti State Disability Law by realizing the rights of persons with disabilities to access public facilities and services on an equal basis with others.
He lamented the non-existence of ramps, handrails, elevators, Disability Parking space, sign language interpreters as well as public documents being produced in braille.
Michael Ogunduyile, a Program Officer with DINABI expressed his optimism that duty bearers will implement the recommendations in the report to give access to persons with disabilities in Ekiti State.
He said the report will also serve as a very strong advocacy tool for the disability community and a useful document for academics.
He also noted that hardcopies of the report had since been presented to some key stakeholders and ministries, departments and agencies within the state.
