Hon. Lois Auta, the newly appointed Deputy Director of the Directorate of Women with Disabilities of the All Progressives Congress (APC) Presidential Campaign Council, has reaffirmed her commitment to strengthening the representation, inclusion and participation of women with disabilities in Nigeria’s political space.
Auta made the commitment in a message of appreciation following her appointment, in which she expressed gratitude to President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, First Lady Senator Oluremi Tinubu, APC National Chairman, Professor Nentawe Yilwatda, party leaders, colleagues and supporters for the confidence reposed in her.
She described the appointment as more than a personal achievement, noting that it represents recognition of the contributions, voices and potential of women with disabilities in national development and democratic governance.
The APC chieftain pledged to work towards ensuring that women with disabilities move beyond being spectators in the political process to becoming active participants with adequate representation in campaign activities and meaningful opportunities to contribute to decision-making within the party.
She also reaffirmed her commitment to mobilising support for the re-election of President Tinubu and Vice-President Kashim Shettima, alongside other APC candidates, ahead of the 2027 general elections.
According to her, the appointment presents an important opportunity for the APC Women with Disabilities Forum to advance advocacy for disability inclusion, political representation and equal opportunities.
Auta, however, stressed that genuine inclusion must go beyond political appointments to include accessible campaign environments, deliberate representation, meaningful consultation and the active involvement of persons with disabilities in political decision-making.
She maintained that women with disabilities deserve equal opportunities to occupy leadership positions, participate in governance and contribute to shaping the nation’s future, stressing that representation should be recognised as a right rather than an act of charity or favour.
