Disability Group Seeks Clarification on NSUBEB Appointments

by Inclusive News Network

A group representing Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in Nasarawa State has called on the Nasarawa State Universal Basic Education Board (NSUBEB) to clarify whether qualified persons with disabilities were considered in its recent administrative appointments.

The call was contained in an open letter signed by Salisu Shuaibu Cyberguru on behalf of persons with disabilities in the state and addressed to the NSUBEB Chairman, Dr. Kassim Muhammad Kassim.

While congratulating those appointed by the Board, the group expressed concern over what it described as little or no visible indication of the inclusion of qualified persons with disabilities in the appointments.

It said the situation had prompted questions about the extent to which disability inclusion was considered during the selection process, urging the Board to provide clarification in the interest of transparency and public confidence.

“For the sake of transparency and public confidence, we respectfully request clarification on the number of Persons with Disabilities appointed, if any, and the nature of the positions to which they were appointed,” the letter stated.

The group further asked NSUBEB to explain how disability inclusion was addressed in the recruitment and selection process if no persons with disabilities were among those appointed.

According to the group, its intervention was not intended to question the credibility of the appointments or the qualifications of the beneficiaries, but to advocate for equal opportunity, equity and inclusion in public service.

“Persons with Disabilities are qualified graduates, professionals and citizens capable of making meaningful contributions to public service when given a fair opportunity,” it stated.

The group urged NSUBEB to make disability inclusion a deliberate consideration in future appointments and employment opportunities, stressing the importance of non-discrimination and inclusive governance.

“Inclusion should not merely be a principle we profess; it should be reflected in the opportunities we create and the people we empower,” the group added.

It expressed hope that the Board would provide a clear and transparent response to the concerns raised and demonstrate its commitment to ensuring that persons with disabilities have equitable access to public service opportunities.
