The Kebbi State Commission for Persons with Disabilities has initiated a partnership with WACOT Rice Limited, Argungu, aimed at expanding economic opportunities and improving the livelihoods of persons with disabilities across the state.
The Commission’s leadership, led by Chairman, Hon. Anas Malami Gwandu, and Executive Secretary, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu Usman, paid a strategic advocacy visit to the company as part of ongoing efforts to strengthen collaboration with the private sector. The initiative aligns with the inclusive governance agenda of Governor Nasir Idris and seeks to ensure that persons with disabilities benefit from sustainable empowerment programmes.
Speaking during the visit, Hon. Gwandu commended WACOT Rice for its contributions to agriculture, food security and employment generation in Kebbi State. He noted that the company’s position as a leading agribusiness presents a valuable opportunity to integrate persons with disabilities into the agricultural value chain through skills development, employment opportunities, improved workplace accessibility and community-based empowerment initiatives.
Executive Secretary, Comrade Abdullahi Aliyu Usman, said the proposed collaboration reflects the Governor’s commitment to leaving no one behind. He stressed that, with the right support and inclusive policies, persons with disabilities can make meaningful contributions to the state’s economic growth and agricultural development.
Responding, the management of WACOT Rice expressed its readiness to work with the Commission and disclosed plans to develop a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) that will define specific programmes, implementation strategies and responsibilities to ensure persons with disabilities benefit directly from the partnership.
The Commission reaffirmed its commitment to building strategic alliances with private organisations, development partners and government institutions to promote dignity, self-reliance and economic inclusion for persons with disabilities throughout Kebbi State.
