Award-winning Nigerian artist Davido has officially named celebrated music producer and songwriter Cobhams Asuquo as the musical director for his forthcoming “5ive Alive” world tour.
The announcement was made in a video shared on Instagram, where Davido praised Asuquo’s creative genius and shared his excitement about their collaboration. The tour, which will see Davido perform in nearly 20 arenas across the globe, promises an electrifying experience for fans.
INN reports that Cobhams Asuquo is a visually impaired Nigerian music producer, singer, and multi-instrumentalist widely admired for his exceptional talent and creative vision. Despite being blind from birth, he has worked with some of Africa’s biggest music stars, including Asa, Banky W, and Timi Dakolo, and is regarded as one of the continent’s most influential musical minds.
Asuquo also expressed his delight at joining the project.
“He is the ‘5ive Alive’ musical director for the world tour. Nearly 20 arenas—it’s going to be crazy,” Davido said. “Today is the first time I’m hearing what he’s been working on, and I’m blown away. Now it’s time to get to work and start rehearsing.”
The tour comes on the heels of Davido’s fifth studio album, 5ive, which was released on April 18. The 17-track project features a rich blend of international and African talent, including Jamaican stars 450 and Shenseea, South Africa’s Musa Keys, and American acts Chris Brown and Becky G.
Nigerian artists Victony, Odumodublvck, Chike, and Omah Lay also make notable appearances on the album, which includes standout tracks like “5ive,” “Anything,” “Be There Still,” and “Holy Water.”
