The Department of Sociology at Gombe State University has received a donation of three laptops equipped with assistive software designed to support visually impaired students, courtesy of an anonymous alumnus of the institution.
The laptops were presented to three 400-level Sociology students—Sharon Ado, Salamatu Ali, and Danlami Johnson—during a brief ceremony held on June 18, 2026. The presentation was conducted by Professor Danladi Mohammed Umar, Deputy Vice-Chancellor (Administration), who represented the Vice-Chancellor, Professor Sani Ahmed Yauta. Also in attendance were the Head of the Department of Sociology, Dr. Adamu Ahmed; the Departmental Student Adviser, Mallam Arfat Ibrahim; and the President of the National Sociology and Anthropological Association of Students (NSASA).
Speaking at the event, Professor Umar commended the anonymous donor for the thoughtful intervention, describing it as a significant contribution toward improving access to education for students with visual impairments. He also praised the Head of the Department for facilitating the support and reaffirmed the university’s commitment to creating an inclusive and accessible learning environment for all students, regardless of their physical challenges.
In his remarks, the NSASA President expressed gratitude to the university management and the donor for the gesture, noting that the laptops would enhance the beneficiaries’ academic activities and overall learning experience. The donation is expected to further strengthen the university’s efforts to promote inclusivity, accessibility, and equal educational opportunities for students with disabilities.
