The Kano Youth Business, Culture and Games Event was successfully held on Saturday, June 20, 2026, at the Special Education School, Tudun Maliki, Kano, bringing together students, youths with disabilities, government representatives, civil society organisations, teachers and community members.
The event was organised by the Visually Impaired Educational Forum in collaboration with the Muryar Matasa Initiative as part of efforts to promote entrepreneurship, inclusion, talent development and social participation among young persons with disabilities.
One of the highlights of the programme was a public lecture on Entrepreneurship Education and Success for Persons with Disabilities delivered by Dr. Farida Muhammad Shehu. The lecture focused on the importance of self-reliance, innovation and business development as pathways to economic empowerment for persons with disabilities.
Participants also took part in a panel discussion on Business Opportunities and Challenges for Persons with Disabilities, where speakers examined barriers facing persons with disabilities in accessing finance, education and employment, while identifying opportunities for entrepreneurship and skills development.
The programme further featured a students’ quiz competition and an exciting blind football match, providing participants with opportunities to demonstrate their knowledge, talents and sporting abilities. Organisers said the activities were designed not only to entertain participants but also to build confidence, encourage teamwork and strengthen critical thinking skills.
Speaking during the event, the Chief Executive Officer of Muryar Matasa Initiative, Comrade Saratu Samaila, represented by Nasiru Dauda, said the programme was aimed at equipping persons with disabilities with entrepreneurial knowledge and practical skills that would enhance their self-reliance and economic empowerment.
He noted that the quiz competition and sporting activities were carefully selected to encourage students to develop confidence and improve their ability to respond to questions on current affairs, education, science and other areas of knowledge.
The event attracted representatives from the Kano State Ministry of Women Affairs and Children Development, the Kano State Ministry of Education, the State Universal Basic Education Board (SUBEB), civil society organisations and other stakeholders committed to advancing the rights and welfare of persons with disabilities.
Chairman of the Visually Impaired Educational Forum, Ibrahim Ismail, congratulated all winners and participants for their outstanding performances and commended the enthusiasm displayed throughout the programme. He said the success of the event underscored the importance of promoting inclusive education, entrepreneurship and recreational activities for young persons with disabilities.
The organisers expressed appreciation to guests, partners, volunteers, organisations and participants whose support contributed to the success of the programme. They described the event as a memorable and impactful experience that strengthened inclusion, learning and empowerment among young persons with disabilities in Kano State.
