Nigeria has lost its bid to host the World Federation of the Deaf (WFD) congress 2027 to United Arab Emirates (UAE).
Nigeria, was in a bidding war alongside Norway and UAE at the WFD hold in Jeju Island, South Korea, in a bid to win the rights to host the world Deaf community in Nigeria and Africa.
Nigeria emerged third in the election with a poll of 14 votes while Norway and UAE got 23 and 34 votes respectively which gave UAE the rights to host the world in 2027.
Speaking after the election, the National President of Nigeria National Association of the Deaf,NNAD, Dr. Chidi Topaz Olujie said, “the challenge was a lot of Nigerians got visa denied and this adversely affected our bid to host the world”.
“But at least we are able to get Nigeria on the world so we really tried. And we should be happy that we attempted. Highest congrats to us all”.
He lauds the Nigerian government, National Commission for Persons with disabilities, and members who gave their all.
When asked if there is any chance to bid again in the future, the National President said the association will attempt again if Nigerian members give the approval”.
