DWAI Seeks Access to Quality Healthcare Services for Deaf Women in Taraba

by Sejoro Ekundayo

The Deaf Women Aloud Initiative (DWAI) has called on government to make access to quality and inclusive healthcare services available for Deaf Women in Taraba State.

The Executive Director, Hellen Beyioku-Alase made the call in her recent advocacy visit to the Ministry of Health. The project is funded by Disability Rights Fund.

Speaking during the event, Mrs Alase highlighted the challenges being faced by Deaf women and girls in accessing quality and inclusive healthcare services.

Finding conducted by DWAI during a field work discovered that Deaf Women and Girls who seek medical services by communicating through Sign Language are not given adequate attention to their well-being.

The Permanent Secretary, Taraba Ministry of Health, Dr. Masaki Musa, expressed delight on the importance of the mission and assured of the ministry’s commitment to ensuring that policies and guidelines to ensure inclusive healthcare would be taken into consideration, especially in areas of accessible Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights (SRHR) information within the state.
