Women with disabilities under the All Progressives Congress (APC) have petitioned the party’s leadership over what they described as the exclusion and under-representation of women with disabilities in the 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.

The petition, dated August 22, 2026, was signed by the North Central Coordinator of the Forum of APC Women with Disabilities, Hon. Kyennan Mizim, and addressed to the APC National Chairman and Director-General of the 2027 Presidential Campaign Council through the North Central Coordinator of the forum.

The group expressed concern over the membership list of the campaign council released on Friday, noting that while four men with disabilities were reportedly included, no woman with a disability was listed. It described the situation as unacceptable, arguing that women with disabilities had made significant contributions to the growth, visibility and electoral success of the party.

The petitioners also questioned the inclusion of Mr. Musbau Lawan Didi under the Persons with Disabilities category, alleging that he is currently a member of the African Democratic Congress (ADC), having left the APC in 2021/2022. They argued that his inclusion, while active APC members, particularly women with disabilities, were excluded, amounted to an injustice to loyal party members.

According to the group, women with disabilities constitute a critical bloc within the APC, having participated in mobilisation, campaigns and electoral activities at various levels. It said their exclusion from leadership positions in a strategic campaign structure was discriminatory and inconsistent with the party’s stated commitment to inclusion, equity and the Renewed Hope Agenda.

The women therefore called for an immediate review and amendment of the campaign council list to ensure equitable representation, as well as the inclusion of qualified women with disabilities in leadership positions within the council.

They also demanded the removal of Mr. Musbau Odidi’s name from the list on the grounds that he is no longer an APC member, while urging the party to make a clear commitment to ensuring that women with disabilities are given opportunities to lead in party structures and campaign activities.

The group warned that failure to address the concerns could lead its members to pursue lawful actions, including peaceful protests and public engagement, to express their displeasure.

Despite the grievances, the petitioners reaffirmed their loyalty to the APC and appealed to the party leadership to recognise the contributions of women with disabilities and ensure their meaningful participation in the party’s political structures.
