IWD: Gombe State Commissioner Promises Support For Deaf Women

The Honourable Commissioner, Gombe State Ministry of Women Affairs and Social Development, Mrs. Naomi J.J Awak, on Wednesday received the Deaf Women Association of Nigeria (DWAN) and Gombe State Deaf Women Association during a rally jointly organized by both associations to mark the International Women’s Day and 12th Annual General Meeting (AGM) of the apex Deaf Women body in the country. The meeting also Incorporated a National Deaf women conference for capacity building.

The Hon. Commissioner while welcoming the rallying team stated that she was happy to receive them because she’s also a woman. She noted that the State Government and her ministry will continue to give the Deaf women the support they deserve to actualize their dreams.

She also promised to attend their formal opening ceremony at Federal College of Education (T) Gombe, a promise INN learnt was fulfilled yesterday.

While responding, the National Women Leader of the Nigerian National Association of the Deaf, NNAD, Hajia Amina Ahmed who spoke on behalf of the Deaf Women thanked the Hon. Commissioner for coming and standing under the sun to address their needs. Hajia Amina referred to the Commissioner as a true mother, sister and aunty to the Deaf women.
