AWWDI Criticizes Dana Air’s Discrimination, Urges Disability Commission’s Intervention

Advocacy for Women With Disabilities Initiative (AWWDI) has condemned in strong terms the unfriendly and repulsive attitude of Dana Airline towards persons with disabilities.

The reprimand was included in a press release from the Organization received by Inclusive News Network, INN.

According to the Women’s Group, Dana operators obviously have no regard for human lives, let alone Persons with Disabilities. It remarked that the airline should be reminded that disability is no respecter of persons.

Continuing, it said “It is sad that an airline as Dana could be allowed to operate with such brazenness in our dear country in this 21st century. It is high time we stopped the insults and unfair treatment met out to Persons with Disabilities. Failure to nip this offensive and negative attitude in the bud could encourage other airlines to tow the same path.

Apparently addressing stakeholders and the general populace, the group remarked thus: “We are human beings, and not animals. Your children or relations could be victims of these circumstances if nothing is done to restore order”.

With the National Commission Against Discrimination of Persons with Disabilities in place and a standing law prohibiting discrimination against this group of persons, we cannot but agree that these occurrences at Dana Air and others like them should be rebuffed by the Commission even if it amounts to testing the force of the National Disability Law in courts.

“As individuals, our petitions to relevant bodies and those who ought to protect are being treated with kids gloves. They are being watered down by denials, sweet talks of affiliations, and purported good rapport with Disability groups. It’s therefore imperative we come together to form a united front.

“For those who have the facts and details of the errant abuses by Dana Air , it is suggested that such be relayed to the National Commission for Persons with Disability in order to set its litigation mechanism in motion. At the same time, we call on the commission to honour its vows to protect and include of members of the Disability community in main stream society”, the report concluded.
