In a significant move towards inclusivity, FIFA has introduced a Disability Football Toolkit aimed at broadening opportunities for disabled individuals to participate in football worldwide. The initiative, developed by FIFA’s Human Rights and Anti-Discrimination Department, provides guidelines and strategic steps for member associations (MAs), confederations, and other stakeholders to implement effective disability football programs.
FIFA President Gianni Infantino reaffirmed the organization’s dedication to making football accessible to all. “In many parts of the world, there is still a lack of opportunity for disabled people to play and enjoy football. FIFA is committed to changing this by ensuring that everyone, regardless of ability, has a chance to be part of the beautiful game,” he said.
The toolkit breaks down the fundamental principles of disability football, covering various formats such as blind football, powerchair football, and cerebral palsy football. It also highlights successful case studies and offers a roadmap for increasing participation based on regional needs.
With 1.3 billion people globally experiencing some form of disability, FIFA recognizes the social, physical, and mental health benefits that sports bring. The toolkit aims to bridge the gap, encouraging nations to adopt inclusive football programs that promote fitness, social integration, and overall well-being.
