Zamfara Extends Study Tour to Jigawa, Explores Disability Governance Model

by Inclusive News Network

The Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board (ZSPwDB) has continued its interstate study tour with a visit to the Jigawa State Rehabilitation Board (JSRB), as part of efforts to strengthen disability governance and institutional development in Zamfara State.

Led by its Executive Chairman, Usman Ahmad Nahuche, the delegation held a high-level roundtable meeting with the management of the Jigawa State Rehabilitation Board in Dutse. The team was received by the Executive Secretary of the Board, Alhaji Sale Zakari, who provided insights into the institution’s operational framework and its long-standing role in delivering rehabilitation and welfare services to persons with disabilities and other vulnerable groups.

During the engagement, the Zamfara delegation studied Jigawa’s comprehensive data management system, which captures beneficiaries across the state’s 27 local government areas and 247 wards. Officials explained that the system has enhanced planning, improved service delivery, and expanded access to social protection programmes, educational support, empowerment initiatives, and rehabilitation services.

A major highlight of the visit was the contribution of the Chairman of the Joint National Association of Persons with Disabilities (JONAPWD), Jigawa State Chapter, Honourable Adamu, a former member of the Jigawa State House of Assembly. He shared his experiences on the evolution of disability inclusion in the state and the collaborative efforts that helped establish strong institutional structures for persons with disabilities.

Speaking on behalf of the delegation, Executive Chairman Usman Ahmad Nahuche described the visit as one of the most enlightening engagements of the study tour. He noted that the lessons learned from Jigawa’s disability governance model would support efforts to strengthen the implementation of the Zamfara State Disability Law and enhance institutional sustainability in the state.

Nahuche also expressed appreciation to Governor Dauda Lawal for supporting the study tour, noting that the initiative reflects the administration’s commitment to inclusive governance and the advancement of disability rights. The Board further commended the management of the Jigawa State Rehabilitation Board, JONAPWD Jigawa, and other stakeholders for their warm reception and contributions to the success of the visit.
