Students Union Empowers Students with Disabilities with Learning Materials and Scholarship Support

by Inclusive News Network

The National Union of Bauchi State Students (NUBASS) has successfully concluded its 2026 Back-to-School Support Initiative (BSSI), empowering students with disabilities across Bauchi State through the distribution of educational materials and academic support aimed at promoting inclusive education.

The initiative provided more than 500 exercise books, pencils, erasers, cleaners, and other learning materials to students with disabilities. Five outstanding students were also rewarded with school uniforms in recognition of their academic excellence and dedication to their studies.

Speaking on the success of the programme, the Coordinator of BSSI 2026 and National Organising Secretary of NUBASS, Comrade Salim Sunusi Gumau, said the initiative was designed to provide hope, encouragement, and educational support to students with disabilities while reinforcing the importance of inclusive learning opportunities. He expressed appreciation to donors, sponsors, and volunteers whose contributions made the programme possible.

The event featured presentations by education stakeholders and advocates, including the Special Adviser on Scholarship Affairs to the Governor of Bauchi State, Arc. Salim Adamu Dandada, who spoke on the role of government in advancing inclusive education. Other speakers highlighted the rights of students with disabilities and opportunities in digital skills and ICT.

The programme attracted student leaders, stakeholders, and invited guests from across the state. Organisers commended volunteers and partners for their support and reaffirmed NUBASS’s commitment to promoting educational development, inclusion, and equal opportunities for all students.

“Disability is not inability. Every child deserves access to quality education and the opportunity to achieve their full potential,” Comrade Gumau stated.

The Back-to-School Support Initiative remains one of NUBASS’s flagship programmes dedicated to supporting vulnerable students and advancing inclusive education throughout Bauchi State.
