Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) under the Allied Peoples Movement (APM) in Bauchi State have declared their support for the party’s candidates ahead of the 2027 general elections.
The group made its position known during a solidarity visit to the Director-General of the Bauchi State Disaster Management Agency (BASIDMA), Engr. Abdulrahman Maiauduga, at his office in Bauchi.
The visit was aimed at strengthening unity among party members, promoting disability inclusion and deepening the participation of persons with disabilities in the political process ahead of the elections.
Speaking during the engagement, leaders of the APM PWDs reaffirmed their commitment to supporting the party’s candidates at all levels. They stressed that persons with disabilities should not be regarded merely as beneficiaries of government programmes, but as active stakeholders capable of contributing meaningfully to political mobilisation, advocacy and governance.
They noted that PWDs constitute a significant segment of the electorate and should be given greater opportunities to participate in party structures and decision-making processes, adding that their inclusion would help ensure that the concerns of diverse groups are reflected in governance.
Responding, Maiauduga thanked the delegation for the visit and expressed appreciation for their confidence in the APM and its leadership.
He commended the group for its commitment to inclusive politics and assured them of his support for initiatives aimed at promoting the welfare, participation and collective engagement of persons with disabilities.
As part of his support for the group, the BASIDMA Director-General donated N150,000 to assist its activities.
The gesture was welcomed by the PWDs, who described the donation as an encouragement to remain active in promoting their political participation and advancing the interests of persons with disabilities.
Beyond the political solidarity, the engagement also provided an opportunity for dialogue on issues affecting PWDs, including accessibility, education, healthcare, economic empowerment and representation in decision-making.
With the 2027 general elections drawing closer, the visit highlights the importance of sustained engagement between political actors and persons with disabilities to promote broader participation and a more inclusive democratic process.
