Twenty children with disabilities in Zamfara State have received learning materials through a collaborative initiative aimed at promoting inclusive and equitable access to quality education.
The intervention was facilitated by the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board in partnership with the Rebuilding Hopes on Wheels Initiative (RHOWI) and the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE). The initiative was championed by Board Members, Binta Namadi and Hajiya Amina Audu, who is also the Founder of RHOWI. Following their advocacy, AGILE provided essential learning materials for the beneficiaries.
Speaking during the distribution ceremony, the Executive Chairman of the Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board, Usman Ahmad Nahuche, commended the two Board Members for initiating the intervention and appreciated AGILE for its prompt support in advancing inclusive education.
He described education as the most powerful tool for breaking barriers and creating opportunities for children with disabilities, stressing that every child deserves access to quality education regardless of disability.
Drawing from his personal experience, Nahuche recounted how he became deaf at the age of eight but remained committed to pursuing his education. He noted that with quality education, appropriate support, and an inclusive society, persons with disabilities can achieve their goals and make meaningful contributions to national development.
Also speaking, the Deputy Project Coordinator of AGILE, Dr. Salisu Dalhatu, emphasized that investing in the education of children with disabilities is essential to promoting equal opportunities and sustainable development. He reaffirmed the project’s commitment to supporting initiatives that improve access to quality education for vulnerable learners whenever the need arises.
In his remarks, the Board Secretary, Dr. Bilyaminu Umar Kaura, urged parents and caregivers to make effective use of the learning materials and remain committed to the education and wellbeing of their children. He also encouraged them to continue engaging with the Board for support and guidance, reaffirming its commitment to improving educational opportunities for children with disabilities.
The distribution highlighted the importance of collaboration among government institutions, development partners, and civil society organizations in promoting inclusive education. Organizers expressed appreciation to all partners involved, reaffirming their shared commitment to ensuring that every child with a disability has the opportunity to learn, thrive, and reach their full potential.
