The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) in Osun State has shut down a residential facility for children with disabilities located in the Ota-Efun area of Osogbo, citing deplorable living conditions and lack of proper registration.
The operation followed a public tip-off that raised concerns about the wellbeing of the children in the facility. Acting swiftly on the information, NSCDC officers visited the premises and uncovered distressing conditions.
Speaking at the site, the Osun State NSCDC Commandant, Igbalawole Sotiyo—represented by Deputy Commandant Abeere Oluwafemi—revealed that the children found in the facility were visibly malnourished. Further investigation showed that the home had been operating without authorization or registration from relevant government agencies.
“Many of these children have been abandoned by their families,” said Deputy Commandant Oluwafemi. “There is no record of continued parental support or oversight. This is unacceptable.”
He added that the matter had been reported to the Osun State Bureau for Persons With Disabilities to ensure the children are given immediate and appropriate care.
The NSCDC also urged parents and guardians to thoroughly investigate and confirm the legitimacy of care homes before entrusting their children to such facilities, especially vulnerable ones.
