The Abia State Commission for the Welfare of Disabled Persons has commended the state government’s 2025 plans aimed at addressing the social needs of Persons with Disabilities (PWDs).

In a statement issued on Wednesday, the Chairman of the commission, Mr. David Anyaele, praised Governor Alex Otti’s commitment to fostering inclusion and empowerment for PWDs in the state.

He highlighted the governor’s New Year message as a beacon of hope, affirming the administration’s dedication to inclusive governance.

“The inclusion and participation of Abians with disabilities in governance is no longer in doubt; the future is bright for all Abians. This is truly a great time to be called an Abian,” Anyaele stated.

In his New Year address, Governor Alex Otti lauded the contributions of men and women with disabilities, describing them as heroes and heroines who continue to inspire resilience and determination.

The governor reaffirmed his administration’s unwavering support for the state’s disability commission, emphasizing its critical role in improving the welfare of PWDs.

“The state disability commission will be fully supported to address the challenges faced by our brothers and sisters with physical disabilities. We consider these individuals as heroes and heroines, and we are committed to ensuring their voices are heard and their needs met,” Governor Otti assured.

He further noted that the remarkable performance of Abia’s athletes at the 2024 Summer Paralympic Games in Paris serves as a reminder of the untapped potential within the community of PWDs.

“The courage and excellence displayed by our Paralympians have inspired us to do more. Our government is committed to providing the tools necessary to enhance inclusivity and ensure that no one is left behind,” Otti added.

The governor encouraged PWDs to persist in overcoming barriers, despite the limitations they face, and to remain steadfast in their pursuit of meaningful lives.

“Your lives continue to teach us valuable lessons in fortitude, resilience, and the unyielding quest for purpose,” he concluded.
