The National Drug Law Enforcement Agency (NDLEA) has announced the arrest of three persons with disabilities (PWDs) in separate anti-drug operations conducted in Anambra and Kwara states.
The agency also disclosed that its operatives uncovered and seized more than two tonnes of “loud,” a highly potent strain of cannabis, during a raid on a mansion in the Lekki area of Lagos State allegedly used as a storage facility for illicit drugs.
According to the NDLEA, one of the suspects, a 60-year-old man, was arrested at Akpaka Forest in Onitsha, Anambra State, after operatives reportedly recovered 250 grammes of skunk packaged in retail sachets from him.
In another operation carried out in Ogbunike, also in Anambra State, NDLEA officers arrested a 25-year-old suspect identified as Amos Kenneth. The agency said quantities of Tramadol, Diazepam, Exol 5, and skunk were allegedly recovered during the operation.
Similarly, NDLEA operatives in Kwara State arrested another suspect, Usman Salisu, after intercepting a commercial vehicle. The agency said a search of the vehicle led to the discovery of 6.3 kilogrammes of skunk concealed inside a school bag linked to the suspect.
The anti-narcotics agency further revealed that its officers conducted a special operation at a mansion in Lekki on May 8, where they uncovered 4,000 parcels of loud weighing about 2,326 kilogrammes.
Chairman of the NDLEA, Buba Marwa, said the operations were part of the agency’s sustained efforts to curb the circulation of illicit substances across the country.
He added that the agency has continued to intensify its War Against Drug Abuse (WADA) campaign through sensitisation programmes in schools, workplaces, religious centres, and communities nationwide.
Marwa also commended NDLEA officers involved in the operations across Anambra, Kwara, Kogi, Nasarawa, and Lagos states, urging them to sustain the momentum in drug enforcement and public awareness campaigns.
