The National Commission for Persons with Disabilities (NCPWD) has highlighted the significant role played by the Special Task Force (STF) and situation room in ensuring a smooth and inclusive electoral process for Persons with Disabilities.
This was disclosed in a statement released by Saleh Faruq Gagarawa, Head of New Media of the commission on Monday.
Mr. James David Lalu, Executive Secretary of the commission, praised the special task force for their dedication and commitment to assisting Persons with Disabilities in exercising their right to vote without any hindrances.
“Their efforts during the off-season elections in Bayelsa, Kogi, and Imo states were instrumental in ensuring that individuals with disabilities had the necessary support to cast their votes.
INN reports that “the situation room, established by the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, served as a central hub for monitoring and providing assistance to Persons with Disabilities throughout the electoral process. It acted as a rapid response unit, addressing any challenges faced by individuals with disabilities on the ground.
Mr. Lalu also revealed that the enforcement of accessibility in public buildings, which is set to begin soon, is part of the commission’s broader efforts to create an inclusive society. This upcoming initiative will further enhance the mission of the commission by ensuring that individuals with disabilities can access public spaces with ease.
