The Lagos State Number Plate Production Authority (LSNPPA) is set to introduce customised number plates to identify and recognise Persons with Disabilities (PWDs) in the state.

This initiative was announced by the Commissioner for Transportation, Mr. Oluwaseun Osiyemi, during the 2025 Ministerial Press Briefing marking the second anniversary of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu’s second term.

Osiyemi said the move aligns with the THEMES Plus Agenda, which prioritises inclusion and accessibility.

Highlighting achievements from May 2024 to March 2025, Osiyemi revealed that LSNPPA produced 218,400 standard number plates for both private and commercial vehicles. The authority, which serves as the state’s manufacturing arm for vehicle plates, has expanded in recent years to include the production of aluminium-based road furniture.

Additionally, LSNPPA produced 716 customised fancy motor vehicle plates, 347 for motorcycles, 224 out-of-series plates, and thousands of replacements and dealer plates. These include 11,152 standard plate replacements, 212 motorcycle replacements, and 63 fancy replacements.

The commissioner noted ongoing collaboration with the Federal Road Safety Corps to develop eco-friendly number plates in line with the state’s Go Green initiative.

Addressing concerns about fading number plates, Osiyemi explained that high-quality materials are used, but external factors like corrosive car wash products can affect durability. He reminded vehicle owners that, like all products, number plates have a lifespan and should be replaced when worn out.
