Lagos State Agencies Forge Alliance to Safeguard Rights of Persons with Disabilities

by Inclusive News Network

In a significant step toward promoting inclusive governance and consumer protection, the Lagos State Office for Disability Affairs (LASODA) and the Lagos State Consumer Protection Agency (LASCOPA) have pledged to work together to uphold the rights of persons with disabilities (PWDs) in Lagos.

The partnership was reinforced during an official visit by LASODA’s General Manager, Mrs. Adenike Oyetunde-Lawal, and her team to LASCOPA on Tuesday, June 10, 2025. They were received by LASCOPA’s General Manager, Mr. Afolabi Solebo.

The engagement focused on building a strong framework for collaboration between the two agencies, particularly in ensuring that businesses across Lagos operate in line with established accountability and non-discrimination standards. Both parties also agreed on the importance of empowering PWDs through targeted consumer education initiatives that make them more aware of their rights and available support mechanisms.

“Our goal is to create a society where everyone, including persons with disabilities, can access goods and services without fear of discrimination or neglect,” said Mrs. Oyetunde-Lawal. “This collaboration brings us closer to that goal.”

Mr. Solebo affirmed LASCOPA’s commitment to inclusivity, noting that the agency is prepared to work closely with LASODA to handle complaints from PWDs and raise awareness among businesses about equitable service delivery.

The strengthened partnership is expected to drive more impactful programmes and foster a culture of fairness and social justice in the state. Both agencies believe that such collaboration is essential to creating a more inclusive Lagos, where every resident—regardless of ability—is treated with dignity and respect.
