In commemoration of the 2022 International Day of Volunteers, the Jibore Impeccable Foundation has paved the way for persons with disabilities to exhibit their potentials in Kwara state.
In an event held on Monday, 5th December 2022, organized by the Foundation in collaboration with Zibarr and Kwara State Government, Mrs. Joy Bolarin, the Executive Director of Jibore Impeccable Foundation, said persons with disabilities are honourable people with a lot of potentials left untapped.
She stressed that many of these persons are wasting away because of lack of needed attention that could have built their capacity.
Bolarin disclosed that education is the bedrock of development in the life of individuals, however, it is unfortunate children with disabilities in rural areas are denied access to qualitative education because of no facility or skilled teacher to train these children.
“I want to enlighten the stakeholders that when there is an opportunity for employment and empowerment, people with disabilities should be given priority because of their challenge. For instance, an employment fund was given to 30,000 women in Kwara, but only 100 women with disabilities were among this 30,000, this is not fair, there should be a change in this kind of attitude”, she expressed.
INN reports that some persons with disabilities were allowed to address the challenges facing their businesses and what they want the foundation to do for them.
On the theme for this year’s occasion, “Solitary for People with Special Needs”, Mrs. Florence Oyeyemi, the Honourable Commissioner for Finance, maintained that people with disabilities need to be supported to maximize their potential, so they can feel a sense of belonging.
“People with disabilities are part of the society and can equally contribute to the development of the nation”, Florence added.
Showcasing of various arts, skills, and products of some persons with disabilities were observed and graced by guests.
