Today, October 29, 2024, the Hope Inspired Foundation for Women and Youths with Disabilities (HIFWYD), an impactful non-profit organization dedicated to advancing the rights and opportunities of persons with disabilities, paid a visit to Chief Ayuba Gufwan, Executive Secretary of the National Commission for Persons with Disabilities, at his office.
The meeting focused on fostering a partnership aimed at empowering women and youth with disabilities across Nigeria’s 774 local governments.
During the session, HIFWYD’s head, Esther Nwite Oluchi, extended her congratulations to Chief Gufwan on his recent appointment and expressed the Foundation’s commitment to working hand-in-hand with the Commission. Oluchi stressed HIFWYD’s eagerness to support the Commission in reaching more persons with disabilities across Nigeria’s localities through collaborative initiatives.
Highlighting the core goals of the alliance, Dr. Adebukola Adebayo, a senior member of the HIFWYD team, articulated the organization’s strategy to establish Disability Units in every local government area nationwide.
“This initiative is designed to provide accessible resources and assistance to people with disabilities directly within their communities,” said Dr. Adebayo.
Chief Ayuba Gufwan acknowledged the challenges faced by women with disabilities, especially in education and skill development, and reiterated the Commission’s commitment to tackling these barriers. He underscored the importance of partnerships with organizations like HIFWYD in realizing these ambitions.
The gathering concluded with the unveiling of the Local Government Disability Framework, a comprehensive roadmap aimed at fostering inclusive growth and equal opportunities for individuals with disabilities at the community level.
This collaboration between HIFWYD and the National Commission represents a significant advancement toward an inclusive future for persons with disabilities across Nigeria.
