Albino Foundation said efforts are ongoing to ensure that at the end of registration exercise by the Independent National Elections Commission, at least three million persons with disabilities must have been documented for the 2023 general elections.
The Founder, Mr. Jake Epelle, revealed this while answering questions from newsmen in Abuja, saying, “already they have registered over 67,000 in the current exercise. We want to scale up. This figure is a far cry from over 20 or 30 million persons.”
Epelle explained that they are engaging INEC, National Disability Commission and relevant corporate bodies to mobilise persons with disability groups to use the extension of the registration exercise for their participation in the next elections in the country.
“Our projects ‘Able to Vote’ and ‘Able to Run’ are specifically for grassroots education of our members so that they can go in for elective positions. We cannot fund an individual in the course of his/her political party but we create a platform to navigate through the processes.”
