The City Boy Movement has commenced the distribution of empowerment items to 1,749 youths across the North-East geopolitical zone, including youths with disabilities, as part of efforts to promote self-reliance, job creation and sustainable livelihoods in the region.
The empowerment programme was flagged off in Maiduguri, Borno State, by the National Co-Patron of the City Boy Movement, Shettima Kashim Shettima (Amir), with beneficiaries set to receive various items to support their businesses and livelihoods.
The items earmarked for distribution include Keke Napep, refrigerators, solar panels, kiosks, wheelchairs and sewing machines. The inclusion of wheelchairs among the empowerment items reflects the programme’s attention to persons with disabilities, while items allocated to Adamawa, Bauchi, Gombe, Taraba and Yobe states have already departed Maiduguri for onward delivery to beneficiaries.
Speaking at the event, Shettima commended the resilience and commitment of youths in the North-East, particularly their support for the Renewed Hope Agenda of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu and Vice President Senator Kashim Shettima.
He described the initiative as the first phase of a broader empowerment programme expected to extend to other parts of the country.
“This is just the beginning,” he said, stressing that the City Boy Movement was committed to providing young people in the North-East and beyond with the tools needed to become self-reliant and contribute meaningfully to nation building.
The programme commenced with a welcome address by Engr. Ibrahim Abba Umar, Executive Director, Technical Services of the Nigerian Ports Authority (NPA) and North-East Zonal Director, Youth Mobilisation of the APC 2027 Presidential Campaign Council.
Umar described the initiative as a landmark programme for the region, while welcoming dignitaries, beneficiaries and other stakeholders to the empowerment event.
The Director-General of the City Boy Movement, Hon. Francis Oluwatosin Shoga, commended the National Co-Patron for the initiative, noting that the empowerment drive reflected the Movement’s commitment to practical youth development and service delivery across the North-East.
Also speaking, the Borno State Commissioner for Youth and Sports Development, Hon. Sainna Buba, said the programme aligned with the vision of the Renewed Hope Agenda and assured residents of Borno State and the wider North-East of more dividends of democracy.
Representing the Borno State Governor, the Chief of Staff to the Governor commended the National Co-Patron for what he described as a bold initiative to empower North-East youths, noting that the intervention would contribute to reducing unemployment and strengthening livelihoods in the region.
Beneficiaries at the event expressed appreciation for the support, describing the intervention as a significant opportunity to improve their economic circumstances and commending the City Boy Movement for extending the empowerment initiative to youths across the North-East.
The City Boy Movement reaffirmed its commitment to its objectives of empowering youths, building the future and strengthening the North-East through sustainable economic opportunities.
