The Lagos State Association of the Deaf (LSAD), through the Badagry Deaf Association (BDA), has honoured the Executive Chairman of Badagry Local Government, Hon. Babatunde Adande Hunpe, with an award in recognition of his commitment to the Deaf community and persons with disabilities in Badagry and Lagos State.

The award was presented to Hunpe on Monday, 17 August, 2026 at the Badagry Local Government Secretariat along with members of the Deaf community.

The honour was presented as part of activities commemorating the recently concluded 2026 Southwest Deaf Culture and Arts Festival, which was held in Badagry, Lagos State, in August.

Presenting the award, Chairman of the Badagry Deaf Association and Special Adviser to the Executive Chairman on Persons with Disabilities, Hon. Sejoro Ekundayo Peter, said the recognition was presented by the Lagos State Association of the Deaf as an expression of appreciation for Hunpe’s support and commitment to disability inclusion.

Ekundayo described Hunpe as a leader whose compassion, actions and inclusive vision had contributed significantly to improving the lives of persons with disabilities in Badagry.

According to him, the award recognises the Executive Chairman’s “unwavering commitment to the Deaf community and persons with disabilities” and his efforts to transform lives and give hope a new address in Badagry.

He noted that the recognition was first presented on August 5, 2026, during the opening ceremony of the Southwest Deaf Culture and Arts Festival held in Badagry.

Receiving the award, Hon. Babatunde Hunpe thanked the Deaf community for the honour, saying the recognition would further strengthen his administration’s commitment to the welfare and inclusion of persons with disabilities.

Hunpe assured the community that his administration would continue to support initiatives aimed at improving the wellbeing and participation of persons with disabilities in local government affairs.

He also directed his Special Assistant on Persons with Disabilities to promptly bring the needs and concerns of persons with disabilities to his attention, assuring that such issues would receive the necessary consideration.

The presentation further highlighted the growing partnership between the Badagry Local Government and the disability community in promoting inclusion, participation and equal opportunities for persons with disabilities.
