Gombe Deaf United FC Thrashes Savannah Scorpion FC In A Thrilling Encounter

by Yusuf Mohammed Lawan, Gombe

It was a fantastic outing for coach Blessed Charles’s tortured side ‘Gombe Deaf United FC’ as they pour out their best performance against a hearing team ‘Savannah Scorpion FC’ of Riyal Quarters, Gombe by edging past the visitor 3-0 in an entertaining encounter in front of an ecstatic crowd.

The visiting team who proved more lethal of the two sides dominated possession for most of the first half, striking terror in the hearts of the Gombe Deaf (G.D) united fans who looked fazy at the start.

It took the host merely 26 minutes to break the heavy wall of defense erected by the visitor’s back four, thank to the fine display of talents by G.D United’s center back, Khamisu Lawan, who skillfully fired home a left-legged shoot from outside Scorpion FC’s eighteen yard straight into the net to set the scoreline at one to nil.

In the 34th minutes, G.D United’s talismanic midfielder, Dauda Abubakar missed the chance to double the lead for the host as he saw his brilliant left foot effort went skyhigh above the horizontal line of the goalpost.

Lady luck, however, shone on the home side as they doubled their lead the moment an uncontrolled aerial cross coming directly from the left winger, Isah Zubairu’s brilliant effort met the goal-hungry legs of midfielder, Dauda who broke loose near the visitor’s box and instantly swept home the second goal of the match barely two minutes before the break.

Few minutes to the break, the visitors took advantage of defensive blunder from the G.D united defenders and nearly scored what will seem a consolation goal for them.

After the resumption for second half, the coach, Blessed Charles, tortured side knew they have a mountain to climb as their opponent grew more lethal and will hunt for equaliser more than they charged in the first half. They were however held by the host’s magnificent display in the second half.

To the host’s delight, another fine effort by super midfielder, Dauda Abubakar produced the third goal for the G.D united team and sealed the match at 3-0 in the injury time.

In nutshell, INN reports, that the G.D united FC has played series of friendlies with several hearing teams winning two, drawing three and losing one respectively, with the latest one being lead by the Assistant coach, Abubakar Sadiq Ibrahim who took charge in the absence of the senior coach.

The friendlies played were to test their might as a preparation for an upcoming trip away from home to face up a potential Deaf team.
