Penultimate Saturday, the joy of members of Gombe state Deaf Women Association (GOSDWA) know no bounds as the Association elected new State Executive Council under the leadership of Mrs Alheri Nuhu Iliya to pilot the affairs of the association for the next four years.
The election which was the second in the history of GOSDWA since it’s inception in 2016 was held at the premise of Bubayero primary school, Dawaki Quarters, Gombe under the supervision of Representatives of National Headquarters of Deaf Women Association in Nigeria (DWAN).
Prior to the election on Friday a joint meeting between the Leadership of DWAN and that of GOSDWA was conducted which paved the way for resolving amicably all pre-election disputes and internal wranglings within the planks and ranks of GOSDWA’s members.
Earlier the Gombe state Deaf Community has already took a collective decision on the position of women leadership, with the unanimous decision favouring any woman who clinch the position of chairperson of GOSDWA is automatically the Women leader of Gombe State Association of the Deaf, this decision produced Mrs. Alheri Nuhu Iliya as GOSDWAS’s chairperson after she emerged the GOMSAD Women Leader two years ago.
Those elected in various positions during the Saturday’s election were Aishatu A. Salisu, Vice Chairperson, Maryam Sajo Bwilwa, Secretary General, Aishatu Abubakar, Assistant Secretary General, Financial secretary, Hadiza Mohammed Awak.
Others were: Haj Hauwa Saidu Muhammad, treasurer, Aishatu Adamu, social Welfare secretary, Naomi Nathaniel, Public Relation Officer I, Rabi Saleh, Public Relation Officer II, Juliana Jonah, Chief whip and Aishatu Musa, Youth leader.
INN reports that the newly elected officials listed above were sworn into office under the supervision of DWAN Representatives immediately after the results of votes casted were announced by the electoral committee.
Speaking earlier the National President of DWAN Mrs. Helen Beyioku-Alase praised God for making it possible to resolve all the pre-election tussle that almost tear the association apart, stressing the urgent need for more understanding, patient, unity and collaboration between GOSDWA’s members and the national headquarters of DWAN.
She noted, “I urge you all to see yourselves as one indivisible family tied by common sense of womenhood. If you were to take any decision, it must always be in tendem with the stipulations of your constitution”
Corrobating the earlier position of the DWAN president, the North East Coordinator of DWAN Ms. Miyausa Wayuta and her North West counterpart, Mrs. Hajara Nasir Makarfi admonished the entire GOSDWA’s members to always prioritize unity, teamwork and patriotism in whatever they do.
She stressed that it’s only when the newly elected executives members are united they will be able to achieve unlimited success as a team.
On her part, the pioneer chairperson of GOSDWA Mrs. Tani Daniel who chaired the Electoral Committee commended members of the committee for their resilient commitment and patient to see the success of the election. She also thanked the DWAN National leaders for their sacrifice and cooperation accorded to the association.
