At the Annual General Meeting of the Deaf Women Association of Nigeria, yesterday, Tuesday 23, August 2022, a solemn charge went forth from the immediate past President and Founder of the association to members to keep the Association’s vision alive and aglow.
Deaconess Adedoyin Beyioku-Alase in a goodwill message to the August gathering went down memory lane to reignite old flames.
Mama Deaf, as she is fondly called charged her women to carry on the vision she started 21 years ago.
Her words: “let this vision not die!”. She reiterated the place of unity in keeping the vision alive.
According to her, keeping the deaf emancipation dream going calls for proactive steps by leaders and members alike. She listed some of these steps to include: ensuring a sound foundation for the Deaf child, being a voice for the voiceless, etc.
The Association’s founder reminded the women of DWAN’s vision statement: “striving to engender a Deaf friendly and Inclusive society that guarantees full participation and equality of Deaf women and girls in all aspects of life”.
Earlier in the program, the Association’s anthem, part of which enthuses “in unity we will overcome”, and “proving ability in our Disability” was sung. It aptly captures the essence of Mama Deaf’s charge to the members.
