Disability Board Pushes for Inclusive Teacher Recruitment, Seeks Enforcement of 5% Employment Quota

by Inclusive News Network

The Zamfara State Persons with Disabilities Board has intensified its advocacy for inclusive public sector employment with a renewed call for the implementation of the statutory five per cent employment quota for persons with disabilities in the state.

As part of the initiative, a delegation led by the Board’s Executive Chairman, Usman Ahmad Nahuche, paid an advocacy visit to the Zamfara State Commissioner for Education, Science and Technology, Abdulmalik Abubakar Gajam, to discuss measures aimed at making the state’s ongoing teacher recruitment exercise more inclusive.

The visit focused on ensuring that the recruitment of 3,050 Basic School Teachers complies with the provisions of the Zamfara State Disability Law, particularly the mandatory five per cent employment quota for qualified persons with disabilities.

The Board also urged the Ministry to ensure that the online recruitment portal is fully accessible and disability-friendly, allowing applicants with disabilities to participate in the exercise without barriers.

Speaking during the engagement, Nahuche reiterated the Board’s commitment to partnering with the Ministry to promote inclusive education and expand employment opportunities for qualified persons with disabilities. He noted that such collaboration aligns with the inclusive governance agenda of the administration of Dauda Lawal.

The advocacy visit forms part of the Board’s broader engagement with Ministries, Departments and Agencies (MDAs) to ensure the effective implementation of the Zamfara State Disability Law.

The Board maintained that enforcing the employment quota and removing barriers in public recruitment processes are essential steps toward guaranteeing equal opportunities and ensuring that no qualified person with a disability is excluded from government employment.
