Badagry Deaf Community Thanks Council Chairman For Palliative Package

The Badagry Welfare Association of the Deaf in its words of appreciation thanked Executive Chairman, Olorunda Local Council Development, Hon. Samson Folorunso Olatunde, for distributing relief packages to 15 members of the association to cushion the harsh economic reality of the fuel subsidy removal in Nigeria.

The relief packages, which consist of foodstuffs such as raw rice, beans, garri, groundnut oil, packs of sugar, salt, seasoning, noodles, semovita, spaghettis and other items, were distributed to over 20,000 residents of Olorunda Local Council Development Area on Thursday 10th August, 2023 at the Council Secretariat, Iworo, Badagry, Lagos.

In an interview with Inclusive News Network, chairman of the Association, Sanni Olawale thanked the mayor for distributing palliative packages. He however, urged the council chairman to prioritize the distribution, while calling for more supports for members.

According to him, “Several members of our association are the worse hit by the effects of fuel subsidy removal because our disability has negative efforts on our well being, this relief palliative is a laudable initiative, however, the deaf and persons with disabilities in Badagry need more supports with employment, education, free healthcare and empowerment for business owners.

Olawale urges Hon. Olatunde to act as a father to Deaf community in Olorunda Local Council Development Area.

Speaking during the distribution, the Council Mayor, Hon. Samson Folorunso Olatunde, said the palliatives were a token to cushion the harsh effects of the fuel subsidy removal in the Country and to reassure indigent residents that the government understands their plight.

Hon. Olatunde emphasised that the essence of governance is to make life bearable for the ordinary citizens, through the implementation of series of policies and programmes which have direct impact in the lives of the people.

He added that his administration had always been responsive to the yearnings of the people at the grassroots since inception, particularly at crucial situations in Nigeria and would remain committed to its primary responsibilities of bringing succour to the people where and when necessary.
