Davies Global Disability Youths and Leadership foundation (DAGDYL) has urged persons with disabilities to acquire relevant digital skills in order to remain competitive in a ever changing inclusive green economy.
The foundation made the call in a one-day workshop for youths with disabilities to commensurate the 2023 International Youth Day (IYD), with the theme “Digital skills for digital jobs toward a sustainable and inclusive green economy”.
Speaking during her opening remarks, the Executive Director of the Foundation, Mrs Omolara Daniel emphasized the need to remain focused and relentless in the drive towards an inclusive green economy through the acquisition of such digital skills that will promote the relevance by persons with disabilities.
Daniel said “the world keeps on moving and as persons with disabilities, we all must ensure that we are not left behind. We must continue to strive and show the world that even in our minority, we are equally sound and relevant to a digital green economy. We are and can be digitally skilled so that we can fit in”.
The guest speaker, Isaiah Olamide Daniel while speaking on the theme of the day; said: “Opportunity plus preparation is what we know as virtue. Persons with disabilities most especially youths must be prepared by acquiring relevant skills that will keep them up-to-date with global realities.
“We need to start transforming our analogical activities to conform with digital trends.
Digital skills are very essential for employment. The world is always looking out for people with relevant skills to solve environmental problem.
Isaiah noted that “acquiring digital skills to remain relevant in an economy is very possible for youths with disabilities.
“Many of these skills can be acquired at little or no cost at all. If you are interested in growing the digital economy as a person with disability, you must acquire digital skills’.
Persons with disabilities were implored to attend conferences, workshops and seminars that will aid their digital skills development regardless of any financial benefits.
