The Federal Government has announced a plan to review the current secondary education curriculum to place emphasis on skill acquisition at that level of education in Nigeria.
The outgoing Executive Secretary of the Nigerian Educational Research Development Council, Professor Ismail Junaidu, made this known in Abuja.
Junaidu spoke when he visited the Executive Secretary, National Senior Secondary Education Commission (NSSEC) Dr Benjamin Abakpa, according to a statement by the Head, Press and Public Relations of NSSEC, Fatima Bappare on Wednesday in Abuja.
Junaidu revealed that the implementation of the developed curricula of the 34 trade Subjects in the Senior Secondary Schools nationwide had been in place for the past eleven (11) years.

He added that the council had initiated the process for the review of the Curriculum and that further consultations were ongoing with stakeholders on the areas that need to be reviewed.
The Executive Secretary of NSSEC, speaking in the same vein said the Federal Government was poised to encourage skills acquisition by students in the nation’s senior secondary schools.
Dr Abakpa reiterated that the Senior Secondary Education curriculum must be appropriately developed to serve the interest of the nation.
He further emphasised, that exposing students early to the trade subjects will enable the students to be self-reliant thereby helping to meet societal needs.
The NSSEC boss pledged his unalloyed support for the implementation of the Senior Secondary Education sector to enhance the government effort in reducing the out-of-school children syndrome in Nigeria.
