Kwara State University (KWASU), Malete, has taken a significant step towards promoting inclusivity by introducing a N100,000 fee waiver for its students with disabilities.
The Vice Chancellor, Professor Shaykh-Luqman Jimoh, also announced a monthly allowance of N50,000 for staff with disabilities and plans to expand employment opportunities for sign language interpreters.
The announcement was made on Thursday at an event organized by the university’s Disability Support Office and the Department of Special Education in celebration of the 2024 International Day of Persons with Disabilities.
Themed “Transformative Solutions for Inclusive Development: The Role of Innovation in Creating an Accessible and Equitable World,” the event showcased KWASU’s commitment to creating a supportive educational environment.
According to a statement by the university’s Director of Disability Support Services, Dr. Saidat Aliyu, the Vice Chancellor reaffirmed the institution’s dedication to ensuring all community members actively participate in campus life through these transformative policies.
