The National President, Nigeria National Association of the Deaf (NNAD) has commended Kano State Governor, Dr Abudullahi Umar Ganduje for appointing a member of the association as SSA on Disability Matters.
In a statement by the President, Hon. Chidi Olujie, on Saturday, he expressed pride and gratitude of NNAD at having one of its members, Adnan Aliyu Daneji, in Ganduje’s Cabinet.
Chidi however noted that the appointment didn’t come as a surprise considering the appointee’s (Daneji) contribution towards the re-election of his principal, his contribution toward the success of NNAD’s 2020 National Convention in Kano and the Governor’s commitment to include persons with disabilities in his administration’s policies and programs.
The NNAD boss went on to affirm that “NNAD is proud to say that its presence in Kano last year, where it organized its AGM/International Deaf Week with bold statements for inclusion of the Deaf and other PWDs as well as recognition of the Sign Language is yielding positive results. So far, Governor Ganduje has appointed two Persons with Disability as aides on Disability Matters.
While encouraging members of the Deaf and Disability community to support the two aides (Mallam Tasiu Shehu Garko and Adnan Aliyu Daneji) in their task of representing them, Chidi also urged them to work together and operate a consultative leadership style which involves open door policies for the benefit of all and sundry.
He noted that Governor Ganduje has finally joined his Abia State counterpart to appoint two PWDs as Aides on Disability Matters. He expressed optimism that other States will follow similar steps by including PWDs in their governments, policies and programs thereby leaving no one behind and giving everyone a sense of belonging.
