An NGO, Pure Girls Initiative & Single Teenage Moms Foundation has spread joys of the festive season by distributing food and gifts items while calling for a stop to stigmatization of PWDs.
The President, Pamela Patrick made the call in an interview with Inclusive News Network after the gift items were distributed on December 24.
Pamela remarked that a core objective of the organization was to speak against stigmatization of the girl-child with Disability.
“We seek to empower all categories of teenagers with various skills to keep them occupied – thus preventing sexual enticement with gifts from the opposite sex.”
The foundation, a subsidiary of the Puregells Services Enterprises, seeks to eliminate all forms of stigmatization against Persons with Disabilities and to show them more love.
“The organization also seeks to create awareness and sensitization for teenage girls to have a voice. We see these girls as future leaders who should be free from all forms of stigmatization.”
Pamela says: “this is what I live for. I feel fulfilled and satisfied helping humanity and spending time with these vulnerable ones. They feel left out, sidelined and abandoned.
“I am seizing this opportunity to call on well meaning individuals and groups to join me to say no to stigmatization and rejection of the girl-child living with disabilities. God loves us equally”.
INN learnt that the foundation distributed rice, yams, shoes, sanitary pads, clothes, and token cash to Persons with Disabilities and other vulnerable groups.
The programmes also featured free training on bread making and other skills. Emotional help & counselling for the Girl-child were offered free of charge.
